Environmental sustainability is one of MODC’s core pillars.
Our Environmental Development initiatives focus on restoring natural ecosystems, promoting responsible land use, and educating communities on the long-term impacts of environmental destruction.
Our Mission for the Environment
Sri Lanka’s once-rich forests are rapidly disappearing due to deforestation for short-term gain. This has led to:
- Increased landslides
- Disruption of natural water channels
- Threats to drinking water sources
- Soil degradation
- Loss of biodiversity
MODC is committed to reversing this damage through community-centered environmental action.
Our Key Environmental Projects
Small-Scale Forest Management
We actively develop and maintain community forest areas, particularly in Kukuleganga, promoting reforestation and ecosystem balance.
Environmental Awareness Education
We work with local families, farmers, and youth to teach the importance of:
Preserving forests
Preventing soil erosion
Protecting water sources
Sustainable farming methods
Organic Cultivation for Health & Sustainability
In addition to reforestation, we cultivate organic spices such as:
Turmeric
Ginger
Cinnamon
Pepper
Cloves
Goraka
These plantations support both environmental restoration and healthy food consumption.
